With its announcement this morning that it was putting its Lord & Taylor business out for “strategic alternatives,” Hudson’s Bay Co. continues to tear down what its owner Richard Baker tried to build up. The circling of the retail wagons around its core Saks Fifth Avenue and Hudson’s Bay units is clearer than ever, proving that Baker’s misguided shopping spree was a textbook example of Stupid Business.

After following the successful failure of Emperor Eddie Lampert systematically destroying Sears, this seems like DeJa Vu all over again. Is Baker a graduate of the Lampert Institute of Demolition?
